Wind and performance consulting for a crowned supertall tower

The Exchange 106 is a 106-storey, 454-meter-tall skyscraper in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and ranks as the second tallest building in the country and the third tallest in Southeast Asia. The tower is topped with a striking 12-storey illuminated crown, adding to its iconic skyline presence. Designed as a mixed-use development, it features office spaces, retail areas, and a hotel. The extreme height and hot climate presented several challenges, including wind load issues and stack effect concerns. RWDI’s involvement from the early stages included structural wind load studies, wind tunnel testing, and stack effect assessments to ensure the safety and comfort of both occupants and pedestrians. The result is a supertall tower that can withstand local wind conditions while maintaining thermal comfort and air quality.
