The Nanjing Vertical Forest is a landmark of biophilic design, featuring two towers, 200 meters and 108 meters tall that support more than 1,100 trees and 2,500 cascading plants and shrubs across a series of cantilevered terraces. Conceived by Stefano Boeri Architetti with agronomist Laura Gatti, the towers combine striking architectural form with ecological function, improving air quality, absorbing 25 tons of carbon dioxide annually, and generating oxygen for the city. The vegetation softens the skyline, provides shade, and contributes to biodiversity in one of China’s rapidly urbanizing regions. Recognized by the World Economic Forum as a model for sustainable development, the Vertical Forest demonstrates how green architecture can transform dense urban environments.
