Greenville Bridge (Jesse Brent Memorial Bridge)

Wind engineering expertise applied to a major Mississippi River Crossing

Wind engineering expertise applied to a major Mississippi River Crossing

Spanning 13,560 feet with a 1,380-foot cable-stayed main span, the U.S. 82 Bridge crosses the Mississippi River to connect Refuge, Mississippi and Shives, Arkansas. Completed in 2010, the bridge replaced a 1940 structure and is now the fourth-longest cable-stayed bridge in North America at the time of opening. Its design required careful consideration of wind and vibration, both during construction and in long-term operations. Advanced studies and wind tunnel testing ensured aerodynamic stability, resilience against weather and traffic-induced vibrations, and safe performance for this landmark crossing of one of North America’s most significant waterways.
