Commissioning services for the Oregon Zoo’s innovative sustainability systems

Expanding the Oregon Zoo’s former 1.5-acre elephant exhibit to six acres, Elephant Lands provides one of the world’s largest indoor elephant facilities at 34,000 sq. ft. The $57 million habitat replicates natural Asian elephant environments with meadows, forests, mud wallows, water features, and eco-friendly heating systems. The project includes a single-story animal holding building with public viewing, keeper support, and mechanical equipment mezzanine. RWDI provided enhanced commissioning of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including geothermal and solar features, helping the exhibit achieve LEED Gold certification while optimizing energy efficiency and ensuring animal and visitor comfort.
