Crossrail C510

Award-winning management of noise and vibration for rail tunnelling in close proximity to sensitive receptors

Award-winning management of noise and vibration for rail tunnelling in close proximity to sensitive receptors

The Crossrail C510 contract, covering the Whitechapel and Liverpool Street Station platform tunnels, required advanced noise and vibration management due to its proximity to sensitive buildings. RWDI was selected to lead these efforts, developing a custom groundborne noise and vibration prediction model, designing major mitigation measures, and overseeing real-time monitoring systems. The team also streamlined compliance reporting and introduced an innovative mitigation plan that prevented legal restrictions on construction hours. This work enabled 24/7 tunnelling in a densely populated area and earned an Association of Noise Consultants Award for environmental noise excellence.
