Brigham and Women’s Hospital Helipad
Detailed analysis and mitigation recommendations for a relocated helipad
Detailed analysis and mitigation recommendations for a relocated helipad
The Brigham’s helipad provides approximately 500 medical flights each year. When it was relocated to accommodate a building project, safety concerns arose related to winds on and around surrounding buildings. RWDI conducted a detailed impact review using our boundary layer wind tunnel and technical expertise. We evaluated the interaction with surrounding buildings, and recommended mitigation measures to break up downward airflow. Noise propagation modelling was conducted and we consulted on the helipad design to isolate vibrations. This resulted in a helipad that supports safe helicopter operations while minimizing operational effects on patients, sensitive medical equipment, and the environment.
