Southdowns Environmental Consultants Join RWDI
RWDI is pleased to announce that leading UK specialists Southdowns Environmental Consultants have joined our organization. Together, we’re positioned to address the emerging environmental challenges facing our global clients.
Since 1996, Southdowns has delivered professional services in the fields of acoustics, noise, vibration, dust, and air quality. With a reputation for service delivery and excellence, in-depth expertise, and highly specialized support, Southdowns’ addition to RWDI will complement our own industry-leading capabilities in these fields. Further, this will strengthen our capacity to support our clients in the UK and Continental Europe.
The experience of Southdowns' team of specialists is far-reaching. With major project experience in construction, transportation, industrial, property and built environment, and power generation developments, the Southdowns team provides services from early-stage planning and modeling, through to construction, commissioning, and ongoing monitoring.
A leader in railway noise and vibration consultancy, Southdowns has extensive experience in and understanding of all acoustical issues and inter-disciplinary interfaces associated with infrastructure projects in the UK and overseas.
Over the past 25+ years, Southdowns has worked on many significant infrastructure projects across the region; perhaps most noteworthy is their work on high-speed railways and over 18 years’ involvement on the long-awaited iconic Crossrail project in London. The team served as the lead noise and vibration specialists for a number of the major design and build contractors during the construction of Crossrail, but was also involved in the earlier planning stages including the formal UK Parliamentary hearings convened to gain consent to build the project. Regarded as one of the most complex rail projects in the world, the noise and vibration services provided by Southdowns were assessed as ‘world class’ by the end client Crossrail Ltd on three of its major contracts, and the firm won a UK Association of Noise Consultants (ANC) Award for a particularly challenging part of the project.
The addition of Southdowns expertise in noise, acoustics, and vibration, as well as air quality, provides a unique and holistic service offering to RWDI’s UK clients. When combined with RWDI’s existing expertise in microclimate and sunlight/daylight studies, we now have increased capacity to deliver a one-stop environmental service for planning applications in the UK and abroad.
RWDI has a long history of strategic growth and a commitment to innovation. With its established acoustic teams in North America together with the 2020 addition of Wilkinson Murray in Australia, the company is now clearly positioned as one of the world leaders on rail and transit noise, acoustic, and vibration services. This move furthers our capacity to redefine possible, delivering exceptional solutions to meet our clients’ emerging needs and advance their broader business goals.
