Enhancing aerodynamic stability and pedestrian comfort for Juno Beach Memorial Bridge

The Juno Beach Memorial Bridge is a 75-metre pedestrian and cyclist bridge spanning 30 metres above the Ottawa Airport Parkway, linking Ottawa’s Hunt Club community to an adjacent commercial area. Its angled pylon and two asymmetrical spans give the structure a distinctive architectural character, but its slender, lightweight deck presented significant wind and vibration challenges that required careful engineering consideration. RWDI assessed the bridge’s aerodynamic stability and pedestrian comfort performance, identifying solutions that allowed the project team to complete the revised construction plan on time. Working alongside Motioneering, tuned mass dampers were designed and installed to ensure the bridge remains safe, stable, and comfortable for every cyclist and pedestrian who crosses it.
