Noise and vibration assessment guiding a major airport expansion

Noise and vibration assessment guiding a major airport expansion

To support growing demand, Sunshine Coast Airport undertook a major expansion that included a new terminal and a 2,430-metre east–west runway. A key part of the environmental impact statement required detailed assessments of aircraft noise, on-ground activity, traffic noise, and construction vibration. Drawing on extensive expertise in aircraft noise and advanced GIS capabilities, RWDI developed a customized model of future operations. This model, informed by flight data, meteorological records, and consultations with operators, provided critical inputs for multiple disciplines and ensured accurate forecasts of the airport’s long-term impacts.
