Mount Pleasant Coal Mine

Discerning noise levels from one mine with those from mines nearby

Discerning noise levels from one mine with those from mines nearby

The Mount Pleasant Coal Mine is a large-scale surface mine operating 24 x7. We carried out a noise and vibration assessment for a proposed major expansion at the site. Our analysis needed to take into account the increased propagation of noise under certain weather conditions. It also needed to consider noise from several nearby mines. Using our innovative directional noise monitor, BarnOwl, we could allow for the monitoring of noise from the mine without contamination by noise from the other mines. The Mount Pleasant Mine continues to use BarnOwl to monitor noise levels and dynamically adjust operations as needed to meet regulatory requirements.
