Merdeka 118

Engineering support behind the world's second tallest tower

Engineering support behind the world’s second tallest tower

Merdeka 118 is a 118-storey, 678.9-metre-tall skyscraper in Malaysia, standing as the world’s second-tallest building. With construction starting in 2015 and completing in early 2024, this $1.5 billion USD mixed-use tower is a major landmark. The building features office spaces, retail areas, and residences, topped by a distinctive spire. Its design required careful consideration of wind forces and building physics, especially given its towering height. The project also includes a retail podium covered by a large dome. As the design progressed, RWDI supported the team in optimizing the tower’s performance and safety, ensuring the structure could withstand extreme wind conditions and provide comfort for occupants.
