Design and implement techniques for waste management strategies for development projects for sustainability and regulatory compliance.
Significant population growth has required an increase in the construction of new residential developments, including apartment buildings and condominium townhouse complexes. Modern developments typically include a commercial, institutional, and/or hospitality component. As such, plans must be made for the effective and efficient storage and collection of these materials from the developments.

The Challenge
Waste planning for developments, in all forms, must take into account many considerations, including location, land use, as well as how the waste generated in these developments will be effectively stored and collected.
Our Approach
RWDI’s contributions to waste management projects for developments include:
- Analyze the proposed development plan to understand potential generation sources to develop an estimated volume and composition of the waste expected
- Conduct analysis of waste collection and storage options for the residential, commercial, and/or hospitality portions of the development
- Develop an effective and sustainable solid waste and recyclables collection strategy
- Prepare waste transfer and collection plans (including garbage, recyclables, and source separated organics (green bin)) to support the sustainability needs and requirements of the surrounding community
The Outcome
RWDI consistently provides valuable, effective, and sustainable waste collection plans for new and converted developments as they integrate into wider existing communities and transition into a circular economy. These plans take into account accurate estimations of the waste material streams generated and are accurately prepared for inclusion in the required strategy documents for submission to municipalities and other local stakeholders.
