Smoke management strategy for airport stations
RWDI collaborated on the design of a smoke management strategy for two automated people mover train stations.
Recommendations on architectural and mechanical design aspects were provided and refined using CFD computer modeling. Presentations to the fire marshal and the airport authority help achieve approval of the final designs. A novel fine-mist water suppression system within the tunnel enclosures was evaluated by RWDI using advanced CFD modeling techniques. The effectiveness of the mist system in reducing temperature in the presence of fan-induced draft was demonstrated.
