Abstract

The use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling is growing as modeling techniques mature and computational power increases. This webinar is designed to provide an overview of the CFD modeling process and demonstrate how CFD can be incorporated into design and analysis of applications including industrial ventilation, environmental dust and process modeling. Attendees will learn about requirements for successful application to specific problems, as well as strengths and limitations of common modeling methods. Lastly, this presentation will talk about the importance of technical expertise of this modeling method and the value of collaboration between CFD consultants and project teams when aiming to make complicated design issues simple.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain a high level overview of CFD modeling process from start to finish
    • How does a CAD drawing or model get turned into a CFD model?
    • What are “boundary conditions”?
    • What is calculated?
    • What can be obtained from the results?
  • Learn about the strengths and limitations of common modeling methods
    • What is a steady state vs. a transient model?
    • What are turbulence models?
    • What affects accuracy of results?
  • Understand the general modeling capability of CFD
    • What kind of physics can be included in the model?
    • What is fast and cheap to model? What is expensive to model?
  • See examples of how CFD modeling benefits typical industrial applications
    • Examples are provided to show how modeling fit into a larger design/diagnostics effort. They also showcase a selection of various CFD modeling capabilities.
