Abstract

The climate has changed. How can we, as design professionals, building owners and managers plan for buildings and structures that are resilient to these changing climate patterns? The first step is to understand the future climate impacts at your project site. Next is to assess the risk of these phenomena and plan to mitigate. This design thinking is being increasingly considered in mandated policies (i.e. Climate Lens) and private risk aversion.

We will discuss real-world experiences and applications of these principles across large portfolios of buildings as well as deep dive building case studies.

Learning Objectives:

    1. Understand what future climate data is relevant to a project/site and how to find it.
    2. Learn by example, of how future climate data can be incorporated in the design process
    3. How to prioritize resilient design measures for a portfolio of existing buildings (a case study example)
    4. What mitigation measures should be considered in a new design, and how to implement them (a case study example)
