Abstract

This presentation will give a brief overview of the wind related issues in the design of high rises and, through a series of project examples, discuss various shaping strategies and how simple and effective modifications to building form help in optimizing design.

Learning objectives:

  1. Attendees will gain an understanding of wind-induced phenomena that cause high wind loads and serviceability issues.
  2. The presentation will discuss specific building projects where Shape Optimization Strategies have been effective.
  3. Attendees will gain an appreciation for the aerodynamic and meteorological variables involved in wind engineering.
  4. The presentation will present various shaping strategies to enhance learning.
