Webinar: Designing for the Outdoors – Using Thermal Comfort Analyses to Build More Inviting Places
Over recent years, the desire to live, work and play outdoors has increased exponentially. To make the most of those outdoor spaces, property owners and designers need to put extra thought into how to create inviting outdoor places that are comfortable throughout as much of the year as possible. This can be very challenging especially in extreme hot and cold climates.
Thoughtful outdoor design requires an understanding, not only of the design layout, but also on how the climate impacts and interacts with the buildings, landscape and people. This webinar will introduce the concept of outdoor thermal comfort analysis and show how it can be used to gain early insights into how outdoor spaces are likely to perform and be perceived; enabling earlier intervention for better design.
Presenters:
Goncalo Pedro, Jan Bergstrom
Learning Objectives:
- Learn about the key factors that contribute to a person’s sensation of thermal comfort.
- Understand different methodologies and metrics for analyzing thermal comfort within an outdoor urban setting.
- How to use modern computational tools to provide early insights into analyzing and designing for outdoor thermal comfort.
- Explore strategies for planning and designing outdoor spaces and extending use of outdoor spaces during the more challenging times of the year (hot or cold).
