RWDI Wins London Planning Awards
We’re proud to announce that our microclimate work in the Eastern Cluster of the City of London has been recognized with two prizes at the 2017 London Planning Awards. The initiative earned Best Conceptual Project as well as the Mayor’s Award for Planning Excellence, an overall prize for which an impressive field of 43 shortlisted projects were eligible.
Since early 2016, RWDI has collaborated with the City of London to promote comfortable climatic conditions in the city’s famous financial district. We were engaged to help planners develop a rich understanding of local wind microclimate conditions, using detailed boundary layer wind tunnel testing as well as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling. Our analysis will enable the City to plan proactively for outstanding public spaces instead of reacting on a case-by-case basis to the microclimate effects of individual development proposals.
Our UK microclimate team is currently working with the City to build on this success, turning its attention to solar analysis, cyclist safety, and other wind and thermal comfort studies.
London is the first city to gain such comprehensive insight into local climatic conditions.
We’re proud to support city planners as they lead the world in creating vibrant, safe and comfortable public spaces.
