Railway Airborne Noise

Abstract

Expansion of urban transit within cities can produce negative effects, such as exposure to increased airborne noise. Potential noise issues can be identified during the design phase through acoustic modelling. Detailed analysis of the sources of airborne noise can guide the design for significant savings and benefits. During construction and post-construction, the negative effects of airborne noise can be mitigated using different methods at the source, the transmission path and/or the receiver.

Participants Will Learn

  • Participants will learn about the types of sources of airborne noise. 
  • Participants will learn how to recognize the source of airborne noise and how it is measured. 
  • Participants will learn how predictive modelling is used to understand noise propagation and determine mitigation. 
  • Participants will learn about the effect of various noise mitigation measures applied at the source, the transmission path and/or the receiver.
