RWDI to Prepare Design Wind Speed & Climate Zone Maps for Arabian Peninsula

RWDI has been awarded a contract by the Gulf Cooperation Council Standardization Organization to prepare design wind speed and climate zone maps for the forthcoming GCC Building Code.

RWDI’s Anton Davies and Mike Gibbons traveled to Riyadh to meet with representatives from GSO, Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) and professors from King Saud University to give a workshop on our technical approach and for a formal contact signing. This project will bring some much needed clarity and consistency to the design wind speeds and climate zones used for design in the Arabian peninsula.

The GCC building code will be based on the International Code Council family of codes, including the 2015 versions of the International Building Code and the International Energy Conservation Code. Thus, our work on this important project will contribute to the safety and energy efficiency of buildings in the Arabian Peninsula for generations to come.

RWDI team members on this project include Anton Davies, Analene Belanger, Valerie Sifton, Mike Gibbons, Jeff Lundgren, Sihan Li, and Carol McClellan. Stay tuned for developments as this project progresses!
